When I heard the first inklings of an international field school to India I was immediately intrigued. I wanted to know more and kept my senses open to picking up the first official announcements. This was something deep down I knew I had to make it to; a once in a lifetime opportunity!
I dabbled back and forth- I knew I had to go but the thought of spending the money, taking the long journey across the world, leaving my 4 year old for over two weeks and spending half of my precious August summer month in a whole new country terrified me. But I let my own intuition lead and it said, “Go. When the opportunity presents itself to go to India, you go.” Slowly but surely, the deposits were made, flights were booked and it was official. This was one of those decisions in life that feel life-changing; allowing my intuition to lead me into the unknown with a sure sense of knowing I am meant to be there.
Preparations are in full swing- there are vaccines to get, VISAs and currency to order, things to buy and pack, safety precautions to put into place, final travel details to prepare, home responsibilities to wrap up. Going on an international field school is no joke, it requires your full dedication and focused intention to bring all of the pieces together to make it happen. I am already proud of the grounded preparations I have put into this trip. But deeper than all of the travel prep and physically getting ourselves there, this is an experience that I know will truly change each and every one of us… It’s hard to put this type of internal change into words. Perspectives, values, how we move through the world, how we view ourselves, and how we show up in our communities- all of this will be impacted by this trip.
And we really can’t know how it will all look and who we will be when we get back, but we can be aware that just making a decision to learn in a new culture and be wide open to the experiences is something that starts to fundamentally rearrange a person. Ultimately, I believe that’s why I have said yes. I want to be a part of experiences that challenge me and support my evolution, and this is one of those experiences. 🙂
